Obituary of Elaine Hatty Maloney

With infinite sadness, the family of Elaine “Lanie” Hatty Maloney of Saint John announces her passing, which occurred on May 8, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on March 7, 1952 in Saint John, she was the daughter of Bette (Mitchell) Hatty of Saint John and the late Theodore “Ted” Hatty.

It would be a complete understatement to say that music and faith played major roles in Lanie’s life.

She was a devout member of the Catholic church of Saint John for decades, singing at countless weddings and funerals, spending many years in the parishes of St. Joachim's, Stella Maris, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St. Peter's, and more recently, Holy Redeemer Parish (St. Pius). Lanie was a prominent member of the Saint John singing community, taking part in several groups, such as Friends of Music, KV Players and Fourth Avenue. Her beautiful voice was a gift in the lives of those she loved and those she never met and it will be missed.

In addition to her Faith, she always took great comfort in the love and support of those she cherished.

Lanie was an incredible mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. She was unapologetically herself, honest to a fault, and a wonderful listener. Always the life of the party, her wonderfully musical laugh will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Everyone that knew Lanie knew of her complete adoration of her two boys, Jeffrey and Lee. Everything that she did was for them.

Elaine is predeceased by her father, Ted Hatty, her infant brother Theodore Michael, and her husband, Dan Maloney.

In addition to her mother, Bette, Lanie will be greatly missed by her sons, Jeffrey of Saint John and Lee (Lorissa) of Vancouver; brother, Terry (Cindy) of Saint John; sisters, Cynthia Bishop (Tom) of Saint John, Holly Berry (The Rev. Canon Malcolm) of Oromocto and Jill Stanley (Michael) of Saint John; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, May 12, 2019 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday, May 13 at 12:10 PM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
