Obituary of Lawrence Edmund Garey

 

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dr. Lawrence Edmund Garey announces his passing on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Saint John , NB on February 6, 1944, he was a son of the late J. Walter Garey and Margaret (McGowan) Garey.

 

Larry graduated from Dalhousie and St. Francis Xavier universities followed by a distinguished career as professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of New Brunswick Saint John. He had a passion for teaching and mentoring his students and was proud of his many papers being published. Besides loving to play guitar, Larry was the unofficial ping pong champion of UNBSJ! He will be missed by all who knew him.

 

 

Larry will be lovingly remembered by his children, Catherine Finlay (Sean) of Saint John, Erin Danahy (Christopher) of  Rothesay and Jeffrey Garey (Sandy)of Toronto and their mother, Linda Garey; sister, Margaret Garey (Joe MacQueen) of Ontario; brothers, Kenneth Garey ( Alison) of Sussex and Patrick Garey (Mary) of Saint John; grandchildren, Olivia and Bridget Finlay and Callan and Shea Danahy.

 

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 11:00 AM from Holy Redeemer Parish, 316 Somerset Street, Saint John. Interment to take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Larry’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada Research
