Obituary of Edward Joseph Shannon

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Edward Joseph Shannon of Saint John, which occurred on October 10, 2019 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Saint John, NB, on August 23, 1928 he was a son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Kerrigan) Shannon.

He is survived by three sons: Paul (Patti) Shannon of Sackville, Peter (Helen) Shannon of Saint John and Barry (Monique) Shannon of Moncton; four daughters: Anita (Brian) Stevens, Gail Shannon (Vaughan), Janet Voutour all of Saint John and Mary Claire Follette (Bob) of Chateauguay, QC; daughter-in-law: Laura; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren;  several nieces and nephews.

He was the last surviving sibling of 13 and besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Marie (Bourque) Shannon; one son: Eric; one grandson: Morgan; and son -in-law: Fernand.

Our father loved life and lived it to the fullest. In his younger years he enjoyed boxing at St. Peter’s and held a light-weight title. Hunting, fishing and family were also great pleasures. He spent his working career with Saint John Transit and thoroughly enjoyed chauffeuring his passengers and collecting all of the goodies he was given. Upon retiring he enjoyed travelling with brother Mark all over Canada and U.S. to watch/bet on Harness Racing. Ever the traveller at the ripe old age of 83 he planned/scheduled and travelled alone to England and Ireland. In later life he took up golfing and had a passion for it. Being such a social butterfly one of his many pleasures was to visit nieces and nephews and was known to many as “Unc”. He loved all company but especially from his children and grand-children. Special mention for his great-grandson “Little Joseph” who gave him such pleasure and so fond of saying he was “the best looking one of the lot”. He also enjoyed road trips and was NEVER LOST (the road has to lead somewhere). He went into Rocmaura 3 years ago and loved all aspects of that wonderful place including staff (loved the ladies) and the food. The family is extremely grateful for the wonderful care he was given and they will be forever in our hearts. Dad you will be profoundly missed and loved by all of us!
