Doreen McCavour

Obituary of Doreen McCavour

It is with great sadness that the family of Doreen Rose (Maguire) McCavour announces her peaceful passing, surrounded by her loving family, which occurred on August 30, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on September 19, 1932 in Lorneville NB, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret (Rose) Maguire.

Doreen's life was her family. Family gatherings and celebrating holidays were always a source of great joy for her. Any opportunity to be together, whether it was a special occasion or a family vacation in Maine and N.H. were always special times. She was an avid reader, enjoyed a drive and a meal out at any time. Most of all she enjoyed watching her many grandchildren blossom. She was so very proud of all of her family. Doreen also enjoyed many years working part time at Canadian Tire where she developed some lifelong friends.

Doreen also loved her many friends that she made at Parkland (Shannex) in the Valley, and at Parkland Saint John over the last 9.5 years. Doreen lived her last 4 years at Parkland Saint John in Millidgeville where she made many great friends, especially Norma, Audrey and Leona, who were very special to her! A special thank you to all the staff (who became like family), as well as, Susan Hunt-Gaudett for their exceptional care.

Doreen is survived by her five children, Debby Maxwell, Stephen (Susan) McCavour, Murray (Barbara) McCavour, Brenda (Andrew) Kingston, Kenneth (Sherri) McCavour, as well as 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; brother Ralph (Barbara) Maguire, sisters Eleanor White, Lorraine Maguire, Diane (Roger) Cartwright; sister-in-law Eileen Ellis, along with many nieces and nephews.

Doreen was predeceased by her loving husband Murray F. McCavour in 2016 after 65 years of marriage, and baby sister Marlene.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who have cared for our Mom over the last few weeks. A special thanks to Dr. Love and Dr. Williams, as well as Carolyn and all the nurses and staff in the palliative care unit on 3BN for the special care and compassion given to our Mom, and our entire family, in her final days.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Due to Covid 19, there will be no visitation and a private family service will be held at a later date. Remembrances in Doreen's name can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
