Obituary of Paul Horgan

Joseph Paul Horgan passed away at his Fredericton residence surrounded by his loving family on March 15th, 2021 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on October 20th, 1963 in Saint John, Paul was the youngest son to Eleanor (Little) and the late W. Joseph Horgan (1986).

Paul is survived by his wife and best friend Maria (Steele) and their blended family; daughters, Katherine Horgan (Matias), Cara Campbell (Bryan), Molly Horgan (Zachary); sons, Andrew (Charlotte), Joseph and Ryan; step-sons, Michael and Brandon Bagnell (Chelsey).

Paul put his family above all and he was especially proud to be “Grampy” to his precious grandchildren, Lukas, Markus, William, Taylor, Scarlett, Jay, Ethan, Abigale, Tyson, Brooklyn, Logan, Michael and Gracelyn.

Paul was educated in Saint John and at an early age he began his professional career with Imperial Oil in Saint John, NB.  Paul's work took him to Sydney where he met Maria and the two of them had many adventures together experiencing life while working in Calgary and Ontario. Paul retired from TransNorthern Pipeline in Richmond Hill, Ontario in 2019 as a Senior Pipeline Controller and moved to Fredericton to be closer to family.

Paul was a proud Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Raptors fan. Growing up on Paddock Street he loved most sports and in his retirement he enjoyed playing golf as often as he could.

Paul cherished his many friendships and will be remembered most as a kind, generous and unassuming person. He accepted life's challenges without complaint and received much enjoyment from the simple things in life. He will be missed by Maria, his mother Eleanor, children, grandchildren and also by his siblings, Anne Hickey (Chuck), Jane Horgan (Danny), Mark Horgan (Dan), and Paul's friends and in-laws from Cape Breton including Kathy, John (Josephine), Vincent (Karen), Timothy (Eileen), Patrick and Jennifer (Jeff), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Paul is resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Friday, March 19, 2021 from 2-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where Paul was a member in his younger years on Saturday, March 20th, 2021 at 12:00 pm. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the NB Extra Mural Program, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
