Obituary of Jim Norfolk
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Jim Norfolk on June 23, 2021 at Bobby’s Hospice.
Jim was born and raised in Vancouver and as a student he worked in the Northwest Territories and Labrador City and studied aerodynamics in Belgium. Jim’s interesting life took him to live in Quebec and Ontario in his younger career years. He later moved to Saint John where he spent the remainder of his life. Jim was an avid fisherman and builder of model airplanes. He was a member of the Hammond River Angling Association and the Saint John Model Flying Club. His love of fishing promoted him to document the condition of local waterways and lobby the provincial government to make improvements, particularly in highway construction near waterfronts. In addition to his local friends in airplane building, Jim will be remembered by many internet buddies with the same interest. Jim’s greatest delights were flying his models and fishing with his son and grandsons whom he cherished with a passion.
Jim is survived by his loving family: wife Jean, son Chris Norfolk, daughter-in-law Jill Nelson-Norfolk, grandsons Jonah and Kier Norfolk, as well as sister-in-law Carole Godwin, brother-in-law Donald Tompkins and several nieces and nephews and cousins in the United States and New Zealand.
Jim fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, never losing his positive attitude even at the end of his time with us. The family is extremely grateful for the excellent care provided by Doctors Kristofferson, Grant and Reiman. A very heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Extra-Mural Program and deepest appreciation to the staff of Bobby’s Hospice for the outstanding care provided. You carried the family through a very difficult time, and your kindness and dedication will always inspire us.
