Mona Ellis

Obituary of Mona Ellis

Mona, the sweet lady that she was, unexpectedly passed on October 28th, 2021. Even though she was battling stomach cancer, and congestive heart failure, we all knew she had a lot of fight left in her.

Mona was predeceased by her parents, Levi and Josephine Marsh; her brother-in-law Harry (Penny) and the father of her children, Blair (Ellis). Mona is survived by her Children, Kathy (Michael) Rumson, Cherie (Brent) DeMerchant and Derryk (Tricia Yeo) Ellis; her grandchildren, Jacob, Tyler, Jessica, Alyssa, Ryan, Blair, Drake and Mackenzie; her great-grandchildren Lane, Kinley-Jo, Hannah, Annamarie and Leo; her brother Bren (Grace) and her sister Penny.

Mona loved spending her summers up in Sussex at the Three Bears campground, where she would spend her days sitting on her deck reading or enjoying the company of her grand and great grandchildren when they came to visit. She also enjoyed knitting and crafting, and even had a small business with her daughter, selling all their creations.

Mona was one of the strongest people we have ever known, as she had battled cancer multiple times and won. She had always been a fighter and fought until the very end. Even though she came short of her goal to live until she was 92, (her words, not mine) she still made the best of what she had in her life while living it.

Her love and compassion she held for her friends and family went unmatched. She was very grateful for her eldest daughter Kathy, and all the sacrifices she made to help take care of her and make her happy.

Being from Newfoundland, it was only fitting that the last meal Mona enjoyed, was none other than fried bologna and mashed potatoes. She loved home cooked meals and was lucky enough to have had as many of her favourite meals cooked for her in her final weeks.

Mona had asked that we not mourn the loss of her after she left but instead praise the life she always had and keep her in our hearts. She was an incredible woman, and we are all so very lucky to have had her in our lives.

We ask that, if possible, try and wear her favourite colour Purple to her service if you are attending. She wasn’t one for black and we believe it would only bring a huge smile to her face to see a sea of purple loved ones celebrating her wonderful life.
