Obituary of John Joseph Robert Gorman

It is with an appreciation for a life well lived, we announce the passing of the John Joseph Robert Gorman, on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Born in New York City, he was the son of the late John and Bridie (Grennan) Gorman, who were both born in Ireland and migrated to New York City.

 

John attended St. Thomas University in Chatham, NB from 1962 to 1964, and graduated from St. Thomas in Fredericton with a BA in 1966 and a BED in 1969.  He taught school in district 6 & 8 at Westfield, St. Rose and Bayside, for 33 years until his retirement in 1999.  John spent much of his time involved with Boy Scouts, coaching at the middle school level and other extra-curricular school activities. 

 

He is survived by one sister, Bridget Lydia; nephew, Mark J. Lydia, and niece, Kristine Lydia, all of New York City; lifelong friend Jim Matthews; along with several cousins.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM, with a Funeral Liturgy to follow at 5:00 PM in the Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in New York  at a later date. Due to Covid-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all those 12 and older attending the service or visitation will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of a government-issued ID or proof of medical exemption. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice or to the St. Thomas University Scholarship Fund, Fredericton, NB.
