Obituary of Peter Jollymore

With sadness, the family of Peter Gordon Jollymore announces his passing on November 29, 2021. Peter died at home after a period of illness, surrounded by his family. Born on June 20, 1939, at home in Brule Point NS, he was the second-eldest son of the late Mr. Stanley Jollymore and Mrs. Jean (MacDonald) Jollymore.

Peter earned a B.Sc from Mount Allison University (’61) and a B. Eng (Electrical) from NSTC. Following graduation, he worked for CGE in Toronto then accepted an Industrial Training Fellowship with GEC (UK) from 1965-67, where he and Heather made lifelong friends. He joined the New Brunswick Telephone Company in Saint John NB in 1967, completing the Program for Management Development at Harvard University (’76), and retired as vice-president of NBTel in 1998. Loaned by NBTel to Stentor Canadian Network Management in Ottawa, Peter served as president from 1992-1995. He was Acting Dean of Business at UNBSJ from 1999-2000. Peter served on a broad range of boards and committees in his lifetime.

Active in the Church of St. Andrew and St. David for over 50 years, Peter valued the Saint John community. He was a catalyst for the construction of Abby St. Andrew, which provides affordable mixed income housing in the South End and was involved in other housing projects. Peter thoroughly enjoyed the Parrtown Club, playing old timers’ hockey, golfing with the Studmuffins at Riverside, bowling, and his many friendships in his neighbourhood and community.

Peter loved his family and especially spending time with them at the cottage on Long Reach. He and his beloved wife Heather enjoyed travelling with friends in retirement. Along with Heather, he is survived and deeply missed by sons Craig (Andrea) of Rothesay, David (Marie-Eve) of Ottawa, Bruce (Beth) of Lower Branch, NS, grandchildren Abigale, Zoe, Peter, and Seth, as well as brothers Dale (Pauline), Murray (Pam), Arch (Anne) and sister Mary (Dave).

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Visitation is on Sunday, December 5ht 2021, from 2:00–5:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 6th, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Brenan’s Funeral Home (111 Paradise Row). Interment at Long Reach United Church will be held at a later date. Due to Covid-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all those 12 and older attending the service will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of government-issued ID or proof of medical exemption. In remembrance of Peter, the family invites those who wish to donate to a charity of their choice. The family thanks the team at Bobby’s Hospice and the Extra-Mural staff for the care provided during this difficult time. For those who wish, condolences may be made by visiting www.BrenansFH.com.
