Obituary of James Roy Mitchell

It is with broken hearts that the family of James Roy Mitchell, beloved husband of Joan (Broderick) Mitchell, announces his peaceful passing on December 3, 2021, at Bobby’s Hospice. Born in Saint John, NB, on November 12, 1942, he was the son of the late David Lloyd and Louise S. (Culley) (Legère) Mitchell.

A taxi driver for over 20 years, Jim was well known in the community and well loved by many. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and spending time at his camp out in Marrtown. Jim played sports like bowling and darts and watched lots of curling and ballgames. He was also into antique cars and watching movies. Most of all, Jim was a family man and would do anything for his kids – but just like his favourite Frank Sinatra sang, he did it “My Way”. He will be missed so much.

Jim is survived by his wife Joan of 25 years; sons: James Roy (Heather) Scribner, David Mitchell, and Mark (Rosina) Ackerley; daughters: Darlene Scribner, Tanya (Matt) Glenn, Samantha (Michael) Bustard, Tabetha Myles, and Tanya Walsh; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers: Isaac (Sharon) Legère and Peter (Margaret) Legère; sisters: Anita Legère and Margaret Blount; several nieces and nephews; as well as special friends: Starr Lowther and Brenda Lavigne, and so many more.

Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother David Mitchell, son-in-law David Walsh, brother-in-law David Blount, and best friend Ron Lowther.

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, from 5 PM – 8 PM, and Wednesday, December 8, 2021, from 2 PM – 8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 11 am, from Brenan’s Chapel, followed by interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all those 12 and older attending the service will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of government-issued ID or proof of medical exemption. For those who wish, remembrances to Bobby's Hospice, Extramural or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences and remembrances may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
