Obituary of Kathleen Marie Kelly

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kathleen Marie “Kay” Kelly announce her passing on January 6, 2022, at Bobby’s Hospice, in her 90th year. Kay was born in Saint John on February 26, 1932, to John Henry and Josephine Margaret (Brittany) Deering. She graduated from St. Vincent’s High School, and, with her late husband Bill, raised her family in Saint John. They later moved to East Riverside where Kay made many Sunday dinners and hosted big Christmases with her family, having particular joy in spending time with her eight grandchildren. Kay enjoyed socializing, often meeting her siblings or her lifelong friends for a game of cards. Poker nights with her family was also something Kay loved. She was a longstanding parishioner of the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception and had a strong faith in God. Kay volunteered for many years with the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, in which she took great pride. She was a longtime member and past president of the CWL. Kay’s zest for life, her love of family and friends, and her strong faith will be an inspiration for all of us.

Kathleen is survived by her three sons Michael, Stephen (Mary Jane), and Patrick (Christine); her sister Patsy (Gerald); her eight grandchildren William (Stephanie), Lesley, Christine (Sean), Joseph (Kristen), Brendan (Laura), Bridget, Aidan (Brittany) and Clare; her seven great-grandchildren Mollie, William, Baylie, Kinley, Karlie, Noah, and Aoife, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her loving husband Bill, Kay was predeceased by her parents, her daughter-in-law Anne; and her siblings Peggy, Helen, Irene, Mary, Phyllis, Patrick, Ronald, John, Gregory, and Doug.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses from the Oncology department, Extramural, and Bobby's Hospice for their tender care of Kay during her illness.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Visitation for Kathleen is on Sunday, January 9th, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 10th, 2022, for 11:00 AM at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception (91 Waterloo St., Saint John). A private family burial will take place at a later date. Due to Covid-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all those 12 and older attending the service will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of government-issued ID or proof of medical exemption. Donations in Kathleen’s memory may be made to the Cathedral Restoration Fund. For those who wish, condolences may be made by visiting www.BrenansFH.com
