Obituary of Elizabeth "Beth" McLeod

It is with profound sadness that the sisters of Elizabeth T. McLeod, announce her passing after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Beth was the first daughter born to the late Mary Madeline (Chlow) and James Joseph McLeod in 1950.

Beth graduated from UNB Law school and was admitted to the New Brunswick Bar in 1976 and started her long career, as a female lawyer in Saint John, mostly as a sole solicitor. She was a member of the New Brunswick Law Society; a member and the first female President of the Saint John Law Society.  Beth received her Q.C. (Queen’s Counsel), was a member of the St. Pius X CWL, a member of St. Pius X Finance Committee, sat on the Board of Directors for Centre for Youth Care and was President of the Board of Directors at Brentwood Condominium.

Besides her law practice, Beth enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, whether it be a short overnight trip to St. Andrews, cruising the Caribbean, Hawaii, Florida, spending Christmas in New York City, or her favorite coastal resort in Rockport, Maine.

Beth is survived by her two sisters, Ann  and Karyl, her extended family, Jeffrey and Jennifer Morton and their children, her paternal uncle Joseph H. McLeod and his wife Barbara, several cousins, and long-time friends Gail and Lou McIntyre.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). There will be no visitation, at her request. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on Friday November 6, 2020 at 2 pm.  Masks and social distancing will be mandatory for the service. To maximize the number of attendees for the service, family, friends and co-workers are asked to please notify the Cathedral via email at cic@nb.aibn.com if you plan on attending Beth’s service. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by visiting Beth’s obituary on Brenan’s website.  Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice.

Ann and Karyl would like to thank Dr. Julie Hildebrand for her quick thinking, fast action and support throughout this ordeal. Also, our thanks to Dr. Burnell, Dr. Caissie, and all the great staff at the SJRH Oncology and Radiation Department, who were involved in Beth’s life during her battle.  Thank you to the Palliative Care team and Extra Mural for their part in looking after Beth’s needs.  And to everyone at Bobby’s Hospice, who for the last few weeks have taken the best care possible, their love and compassion for Beth was GREATLY APPRECIATED by her family.
