Obituary of George Mitchell

George Victor Mitchell, 73, of Saint John, passed away unexpectedly on December 14, 2020, at his residence.

Born on October 27, 1947 to Joan (Rossley) and George Mitchell Sr. in Saint John, NB.  He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1963-65, as a Gunner. George spent time living in the US, as a young man, before returning to Saint John. George also lived in Alberta, cooking for the less fortunate, where he had fondly received the nickname “Chicken George”.

George had a passion for cooking and did so with great pride. Working in many fine dining establishments over the years. George also raised funds to support cancer research, with his Chicken Walk campaign in Alberta. One of George’s proudest moments was meeting Reba McIntyre. He never missed an opportunity to tell you about his encounter with Reba.

George led a colorful life and was a natural storyteller and comedian, recounting many life stories that would often leave his listeners wondering if his stories were fact or fiction. He always had a kind word and a smile for all that crossed his path.

George was predeceased by his parents, Joan and George, brother Randy, sister Janet. He is survived by his children, George, Robert, Sherry, Krista, Tina and Victor, his sisters Wendy, Cindy, Jo-Anne and Vicki, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
