Obituary of James Malcolm Nicholson

Nicholson: James Malcolm “Jim”

Peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, November 19th, 2023, James (“Jamie” to P.E. Islanders and “Jim” to everyone else) Malcolm Nicholson passed away at the age of 77. Born in Montague, Prince Edward Island on August 13th, 1946, he was the son of the late N. Douglas and Margaret “Peggy” Nicholson (nee Lamont).

Jim is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 56 years Bev (nee Ottaway); his children Geordie (Lisa) and Sarah Nicholson, as well as grandchildren Jamie and Cole Nicholson. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother Randolf Nicholson and brother-in-law Norman Ottaway.

In 1978, Jim moved his family to the North and took every available opportunity to spend time with his family, or on his own, in the bush camping and fishing on the land that he loved. When he and Bev moved back to the Maritimes in 1999, he was finally able to finish designing and build their beautiful dream home on the river. It was here he was able to spend countless hours in his workshop working on the second love of his life – guitars.

Known to all he loved for his quick and incredibly dry wit, his amazing cooking, and his love of music, he will be greatly missed.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home (506-634-7424).

Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.BrenansFH.com.
