Obituary of Donna Elaine Sproul

With heavy hearts, the family of Donna (Watters) Sproul announce her passing on November 27th at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Donna was born in October 1939 in Saint John to the late May and Fred Watters. She was predeceased by: Siblings Ruth Ann, Jean Elizabeth, Robert, Paul, Gary, Fred (Sunny), and Doris. Her husband, Richard Sproul. And nephews John and Brent.

An active member of Portland United Church, Donna was a choir member, Sunday school teacher. She led vacation bible school, Explorers, Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT), and various ladies’ groups. She volunteered on the church board, with the clothing depot, and was a graduate of the United Church Lay Minister course.

While attending Saint John Vocational School, Donna started the first-ever majorettes group and later founded the K.B.M. Majorettes.

Singing was a favourite gift. She sang with Carlton Choristers and “We Sing”. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, an accomplished seamstress, and a creative artist.

Donna worked at NBTel and Irving Oil but chose to be a stay-at-home mother after starting a family.

She is survived by: Sisters Dorothy Keohan and Darlene Silliker (Ian). Daughters: Christine Gilliland (Bob), Marilyn Sproul (Eric), and Rebecca Sproul (Walter). Grandchildren: Maygan, James, Jacob, Jaxen, and Mary Jane. And cherished in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews, near and far.

If you’d like to honour Donna’s memory with a donation, a gift to her beloved Camp Wegesegum at www.campwegesegum.com or to Portland United Church would mean so much.
