William Gordon Hills

Obituary of William Gordon Hills

With extremely heavy hearts, the family of Gord Hills announce his passing on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on August 5, 1942 in Brantford, Ontario, Gord was a loving husband to his late wife Avis (Jones) and son of the late Donald and Velma (Rood) Hills.

Gord attended Beaconsfield School before graduating from SJHS in 1960. He loved his hometown and worked as a tour guide at the Reversing Falls the year he graduated. Unbeknownst to many, Gord also performed as a water skier around the Falls in his heyday. He went on to study at Acadia University and was also a veteran, serving with the Army and the Militia from 1960-1969. He enjoyed sailing, skiing, doing ski patrol and tinkering with cars. He went on to work a successful career with NBtel. He was always available to help with friends and family and had the most mischievous, happy smile around.

Gord loved adventure and he and Avis toured the world on many cruise vacations. He kept busy with his wood turning and loved meeting with friends for a good game of crib or poker. When circumstances dictated a move into Kings Way, Gord quickly gained a reputation for mischief; always joking with the staff and roaming the streets of Quispamsis in his chair.

Throughout it all, his family were were his pride and joy. Gord is survived by daughters Andrea, Kelly (Duane), and Kathryn; grandchildren: Alexander, Mackenzie, and Amelia; sister, Pamela; sister-in-law, Sharron; and several nieces, nephews, furry grandkids and friends.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Kings Way Care Centre as well as those who assisted him at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their care and the compassion shown to Gord when he needed it most. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). A funeral service to celebrate Gord’s life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 10 am from Brenan’s Chapel, with a Tribute to a Veteran at the beginning of the service. For those who wish, remembrances to the MS Society, SPCA, or War Amps would be appreciated by the family. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.BrenansFH.com.
