Obituary of Jim Cormier

It is with deep sadness that the family of Joseph “Jim” Cormier announce his passing, which occurred on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Rocmaura Nursing Home.  Born on November 9, 1956 in Saint John, he was a son of the late Joseph Abel and Albertine (Richard) Cormier.

Prior to his retirement, Jim was employed at the Saint John Regional Hospital as an LPN.  This was a career he truly enjoyed and where many wonderful friendships were made.  Jim was a skilled bagpiper and had served as a Pipe Major with the Jervis Bay Memorial Pipe Band.  He loved surrounding himself in the beauty of nature and always enjoyed going for long walks.  He loved to sing, was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles.  Most of all, Jim looked forward to time spent with his loved ones and particularly enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren who were his world.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Brenda (Flewelling) Cormier; daughters, Tara Gilmore (Kirk) and Allyson Cormier (Nathan Duffney); precious grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, Olivia and Liam; brothers, Louis Cormier (Ellen), Eddie Cormier and Rick Cormier (Nancy); sisters, Jeanette Cooper, Yolande Rogers (Lloyd) and Joanne Cormier (Harry); as well as several nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his dear friend and mentor, Larry Wilson.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) where visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.  A graveside service will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM.  For those wanting to attend the service, please meet at Brenan’s by 1:30 PM on Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.

For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer Society of NB.
